"When I got home, I started counting them and there were 20 different cards - 19 different players and the host. And there were 20 complete sets." Henry Louis "Hank" Aaron (February 5, 1934-January 22, 2021) established himself early in his career as one of the greatest power hitters in baseball. Aaron had humble beginnings near Mobile, Alabama, but found that sport offered a way out of the cotton fields – which, by the way, helped to build up the strength in his hands for his powerful and effortless swing. Henry’s focus as a teenager seemed to lean more towards sport that his studies and his skill on the baseball diamond allowed him to abandon school for greener pastures like the Negro Leagues. His performance as a member of the semi-pro Mobile Black Bears earned him a spot on the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro American League. It has been estimated that Aaron hit .366 with five home runs and 33 RBI in 26 Negro League games before catching the eye of two Major League franchises, the New York Giants and the Boston Braves.

Whatever year you want to call this collection, both Novella and Bollman, like several of the blasts seen throughout the show, see a long and impressive trajectory for this issue’s future. Colavito’s Home Run Derby card shows him in a Cleveland uniform but just below his name it reads “Detroit Tigers,” solidifying it even more as a 1960 set.

Mays won three of five showdowns, losing to Hodges (6-3) and Mantle (9-8). The original series is intact, having been rerun on ESPN from December 17 to 28, 1988, and July 10 to October 28, 1989. The series proved popular and was credited in part with the establishment of a classic sports network which would eventually become ESPN Classic.
But with Gil Hodges entering Cooperstown this summer, the former first baseman and slugger and manager ratchets that total to 10. Baseball history from Doubleday to Present Day
It led to a popular 1960 TV show and a baseball card set that is highly sought after by collectors. Please keep in mind that, in some cases, PSA started recognizing certain varieties within specific sets long after the company began grading the issue. As a result, some of the population data may not reflect accurate numbers since there may have been significant amounts of cards graded before PSA began noting the variety on the PSA label and in the PSA database. As more and more hobbyists re-holder their previously-graded cards to reflect the new information, the more accurate the data will become.
Please allow additional time if international delivery is subject to customs processing. By default, each of the ten finest cards will be shown on a single line in the Condition Census grid. If more than ten cards are tied for the top ten positions, then cards may be grouped by position into a single line in the grid. When cards are grouped in this way, the total number of cards per position will be shown in parentheses after the PSA grade. This Day In Baseball gives you cool facts and stories through baseball's rich history. Mantle, who hit the most homers during the show’s run, posted a 4-1 record, his lone loss coming against Killebrew (9-8).

The Los Angeles Dodgers will host the MLB All-Star game on July 19 and many batters will look to launch a home run or two at Dodger Stadium in hopes of helping their team win the Mid-Summer Classic. "At the end of the day, I think they attracted stronger interest than we anticipated, but we definitely expected the set to bring a big number in total."

After leading the Braves to the South Atlantic League championship, he was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. He then played winter ball in Puerto Rico, where manager Mickey Owen helped improve his hitting even further by adjusting his stance allowing Henry to hit to all fields rather than only left and center, to which he was accustomed. At the Braves 1954 spring training, Aaron made it very difficult for management to keep him off the roster and when left fielder Bobby Thomson broke his ankle, Henry took over in left for the newly relocated Milwaukee Braves. Aaron, renamed as Hank by a local sport reporter to make him seem more approachable, was added to a lineup that already included future Hall of Fame slugger Eddie Mathews and All-Stars Del Crandell, Joe Adcock, Johnny Logan and Andy Pafko, among may others. In his second year, 1955, Hank led the National League in doubles , notched 27 home runs and 106 RBI, and earned his first of 21 All-Star Game selections.
"If you were going to hang on to a card, it would probably be your favorite ballplayer and not the host of the show." Another tough card to obtain in top grade is the single devoted to host Mark Scott. Of the 19 submitted, the five PSA EX 5s represent the highest-graded examples.
Also, a player could take a pitch, but a plate umpire was on hand and if he ruled it a strike, that, too, was deemed an out. Snider and Eddie Mathews were the only left-handed batters to compete. For the longest time, nine cards in the rare black-and-white issue displayed Hall of Famers.
Some players wore golf gloves during the show—a notable addition because the batting glove was still years away from being a normal part of a player's gear. The 1980s also ushered in a new era for the sports collectibles and memorabilia market, and few were a bigger draw than Mickey himself. He was unquestionable the biggest draw in the industry up until his death and he frequently insisted that lesser-known former teammates accompany him so that they too could capitalize on the recent boom. Mantle's hard living eventually caught up to him as he underwent treatment for alcoholism an eventually required a liver transplant.
